Mt. Cardigan (Firescrew) Saturday, January 12, 2008 Manning Trail Leaders: Ana Jaklenec and Yeuhi Abe. Students: Rachel Batzer, Susan Mershon, Alex Mott, Ed Su, Katarina Blagovic, Berend-Jan (BJ) de Bruin, Diana Michalek, Greg Pfeil Trip Report: Starting at Cardigan lodge we hiked the Manning trail up to Firescrew summit. It was a very warm and clear day with excellent views of Cardigan proper from the top. Lots of ice at the top made for great crampon practice. An extra treat was watching helicopter rescue training going on over Cardigan. Just before reaching the parking lot, we practiced self-arrest on the bottom section of the Duke's ski trail. Overall, a nice trip with spring-time weather. |
