Fun Type: II/III

Trip Report:

Rain, rain, rain...so skiing's out. What are you supposed to do when it rains? Paddle, of course. Well, unless it's like 34*, raining and sleeting, and you don't have two cars to run shuttle.

Things got off to a great start when Greg shuttled my car using my mountain bike...on the side of Route 2, in the driving rain/sleet, with no shoulder, big trucks buzzing him and kicking up salt and road spray. Suffice it to say, he was not a happy camper about the experience.

Barry was the one one with recent experience with this river, and commented that this was the highest that he had done it. Although there was a good deal of water, the river wasn't hard, and we had a good time. We even got in a little surfing.

We got out to scout Funnel, which was much larger than normal. Barry and I could see no discernible line; Greg didn't want to get out of his boat and get cold. It turned out to be a lot of fun, and there was a relatively clean line through it, moving right to left.

After this, we just started getting cold. Really cold. It was a miserable paddle to the take out. Brrr.

After changing, we went into a small country store kind of place with chilli in Erving. Tasty.

Was it a lot of fun at the time? Not Really.

When you look back on it, was it fun? Um...parts.

Did it at least make a good story? Sure.

Rating: Type II/III fun.
