Chris, Greg, Rachel, and a whole mess of AMC folks

I've been working on my dissertation a lot recently, so I happily joined up on a trip out to the Monroe Brook Section of the Deerfield River (aka the Dryway) that Rachel was organizing. I have been down the Dryway several times in rafts, including guiding, but I hadn't been down it in a kayak before, so this would be somewhat of a first for me.

We left Cambridge at 7:15, rallied outside Boston, and then carpooled out to the put in. By the time we had run shuttle and set everything up, it was 11:15. We made our way down the river, slowly and methodically, trying to have fun on every little feature we could. We ended up having to speed things up when we learned that we had barely gotten halfway down the river, but the release was almost over (it only released from 11-2 that day, which is short).

We made our way through Split Rock, Dunbar Brook, False Tooth, Dragon's Tooth, and Labyrinth rapids. Most of the pictures were taken in Dragon's Tooth; after running the rapid, I hoped out and got on a boulder in the flow to get some good pictures of people as they came by. There was also a wave/hole that folks were playing right in front of me.

Lots of fun! I want to do more paddling now!
