DescriptionJune 15, 2008.

Today was highly entertaining, but not always for the right reasons.

We got out of Cambridge late because Chris forgot the combination to the safe. Compounded with two coffee breaks and gas, we would only have time for one run down the river :( Fortunately, just as we were putting on the river, we ran into friends from the RPI Outing Club, putting on for their second run.

Drew and Barry were the practicing raft guides, with Chris stepping in to mess up things occasionally. Maja was the "safety boater." Things were off to a bad start; Chris lost two people in the Factory Rapid (D'oh!) and Drew dumped his whole raft around Disappointment Wave after getting cut off while trying to eddy out. For the record....these are about the easiest spots on the river! Not good!

After these two mishaps and some help from Dave from RPI, we got things sorted out and got our heads screwed on a bit better. The "big" rapids went fairly smoothly, with nice lines by all. We scouted Dragon's Tooth for a while, and we all ran it well (and Dave swam it for fun).

Drew's raft has a nice "dump truck" in Labyrinth, loosing all its crew. Fortunately, he had a spectacular recovery that drew compliments from the Zoar guides. Drew's record: Labyrinth 3, Drew 0. After Labyrinth, we hopped out and several of us swam the bottom half of the rapid for "educational purposes", and then practiced flipping rafts over. Good times!

After munchies at the takeout and ice cream sundaes in Greenfield, we headed back to Cambridge, exhausted and happy.
