DescriptionI was sent on a three week research trip to the Cadarache site in southeastern France, and while there I just had to take advantage of the beautiful landscape. The first few pictures are from a trip to my friend Orso's house in the Aosta Valley in northern Italy, near the French/Swiss borders and Mont Blanc. We took a gondola up over the glaciers to 3500m, but couldn't go any higher since both of us just had summer hiking gear. We then took a hike up the valley to Lago Miage, a small glacial lake at the end of one of the glaciers. We could see icebergs in the lake.

The following weekend Orso and I took a hike along the coast south of Marseille. The whole coast is cliffs down to the water with the exception of small canyons called calanques every few km. The only way to get there is by foot or boat, so the small beaches in the calanques are not crowded like the larger beaches one can drive to. The trail gets a little exciting at times crossing very narrow ledges with a drop down several hundred feet to the water.
