DescriptionJames and Rick were supposed to take one brave soul up into the
Tuckerman and Huntington Ravines but that brave souls ride to
Intervale was not so brave so the trip seemed doomed. Fortunately,
it became clear that the Madison trip had been canceled so Mike
Oltmans, Eric Gilbertson, and Matthew Gilbertson joined James and
Rick while the snow's raged on back in Boston.

We had great weather, it was a bit cold and windy at times but, all in
all, nice and sunny. We headed up the Huntington Ravine trail to (not
surprisingly) Huntington Ravine. We stopped by the Harvard cabin and
said hello to the care takers and found out that the avalanche danger
was "considerable." So we decided to not really go into the ravine,
just up to the edge of the tree line to have a look around. The view
was spectacular.

We then had lunch back at the Harvard cabin and headed over to Tucks.
As usual Tucks was spectacular. The snow was whipping over the
headwall and Bootspur and did a very delightful dance around the
ridges and gullies in the ravine. We had to dig out the goggles and
crampons for the last bit up to the edge of the ravine. It was a nice
sampling of above treeline conditions with the added comfort of a
first aid cache to block the wind.

We then had an uneventful drive back to Boston where we found several
feet of snow waiting to be played in and shoveled.

Thanks Rick and James for a great day in the ravines.
