DescriptionSpectacular High Sierra scenery during a satisfying 12 mile loop beginning at Lake George (elev. 9185 ft.), climbing above Crystal Crag to the Mammoth Crest ridge line. Along the crest topping out at 11,200 feet and then down to the Deer Lakes. Bushwacking an "unmaintained trail" and up a rock slide over an unnamed 11,200 ft pass down to Duk Pass (10,800 ft.). Hike along Coldwater Stream past a chain of high Sierra lakes to the Coldwater Campground (home base at 9,200 ft.)

Conditions were near ideal. A thin layer of cirrus clouds kept the solar load reasonable. A steady light wind kept the hikers cool and dry. Distant thunder was heard from Duk Pass, but the storm cells stayed over 20 miles away.
