Description | Failed exercise in self-discipline for one confused Turkish girl...
Pre-trip: My extensive research (a quick look at some websites) tells me that the range will be 12-14 miles round trip, with 5 peaks. Ironically Tongue Mountain is not one of those peaks, but whatever. Ok, that's doable if I leave my house at, uh, say 9, and hiking by say...10, 10:30. I'll probably be out by dark. Day of: Noon: I arrive at the trailhead. The trailhead sign says "point of tongue: 10.6" Hmm. Ok, I knew that arriving at noon would lower my chances of finishing the whole thing, but 10.6 miles just to the other end? That's weird. Do they mean round trip? Do signs even ever put round trip distances to another point? Probably not. Thanks a lot, websites. Anyway, guess that decides things. I don't think I can quite pull off 20+ miles by dark. 1 pm: ooohh. leanto. ok, 10 minute break. it's not like i'm going to finish the whole range anyways, and i've been hiking hard. the sun is so nice... 1:47 pm: thinking about getting up.. 2 pm: ok, time to keep going. i guess my only option at this point is to hike out at the halfway point and walk back to my car. 6:30 pm: back at my car, and ready to come back to conquer this range another time...perhaps starting earlier in the day. |
