It was in the 80s today in the valleys and pushing 60 on washington (fahrenheit, not mph), with calm winds. Sounds like June but it was actually early April and the snow still stretched all the way from the summit of Mt Adams to the parking lot in Appalachia. This is the greatest continuous vertical descent one can ski in the east (about 4500 vertical ft), and probably the last day this year it would be possible to ski all the way to the parking lot. We hiked up one of the gullies in King Ravine, getting one practice run in before reaching the summit of Mt Adams. The wind was basically calm and the temperature almost 60F with clear skies, so we were lounging around in shorts and t-shirts and not even cold. We took a few laps on the summit snowfields and then began the descent. To make it official we all had to start the final descent with the backs of our skis touching the summit sign. This involve one short jump to get off the summit rock, and I'm probably the only one who fell on that. We then skied down Great Gully into King Ravine, and out the standard trail back to Appalachia. It was an amazing day of spring skiing for sure.
