Description | After taking the winter and spring to take care of a few other items at the cabin, I felt it was finally time to resume the lean-to work. Last summer we had built the cement foundation, so the next step is to interface it to the first layer of logs. My dad and I spent a day picking the best two logs to be the bottom-most supports for the sides. We drilled holes in them to accept the J-bolts that are embedded in the cement to allow the logs to be fully secured to the foundation. Once we got the two side pieces and several cross pieces on there I checked the trim with a level and was very pleasantly surprised to discover that the painstaking work last summer resulted in a very square and level foundation. For the time being many of the logs are resting off the ground on the cement pilings.
The next step will be to come back and take everything back down to clean and seal the wood with a water repellent stain. Once that is done construction in earnest can begin. More updates in the coming weeks. |
