DescriptionOur trip up Welch Dickey left one of the participants wondering, "Are the scary parts (the ledges) a feature or a bug?" It was snowing lightly much of the day, and the exposed granite ledges on Mts Welch and Dickey were covered with an inch of fluffy snow on top of bare granite or ice. We couldn't easily tell which areas were exposed rock and which were ice, so it was a challenge to keep traction, in particular with the quickly dulled aluminum crampons. We all made it safely around the loop in 8 hours, and maintained good attitudes through the challenges. All participants are now crampon pros. Trip leaders were Daniel Schott and Susan Mershon. Trip participants were Karen Li, Natasha Plotkin, Guangyan Gao, Uri Erez, Mark Yen, Patrick Brown, Mariah Hoover, and Keith Rehermann.
