Dave Custer Aaron Yahr 3.16.11-3.17.11 We parked in the metropolis of Ketchum, Maine near Sunday River on a wednesday morning and loaded up our gear in sleds for the long approach. Mahoosuc Notch is not an easy place to get to in the winter if you don't have a 4wd car - it's a 6 mile approach on old logging roads with a mile of bushwacking thrown in for good measure. The old logging roads even have huge culverts dug across them to make the approach more interesting. We made it to the notch after 5 hours of hiking and skiing in, and set up camp on the east end. There was just enough daylight left to get in one climb on the lower sunny side crag. Thursday morning we hiked into the notch to scope out an 800-ft long, rarely-forming climb that we had hoped would be in after the recent rains. Turned out it wasn't, so we returned to the sunny side crag to get some more climbing in. By about 3pm we started the long journey back to the car and made it back to boston before it got too late.
