Description | Charlotte, Nikolai, Le, Richard, Pierre, Ivana, Rebecca, Kayla studied cloud anatomy from the top of the two Hancock peaks. We were greeted at the trailhead with very large, very fresh moose tracks, but the moose was too shy to be seen. The long, flat approach entertained us with some 'interesting' stream crossings. The snow began to appear surprisingly low down. Soft, sometimes icy monorail of snow all the way up the south peak kept us warm as we slid our way up through the clouds on the steep, snowy track. Chowed down on lunch on top of the south peak. A slippery traverse of the snowy ridge, still in the clouds, to the main peak. Paused at the main peak overlook to appreciate the extremely subtle colors in the spring canopy. The steep decent was mostly clear of snow. Some of us were buzzed by a hawk, wings beating, as it flew in to perch a few feet over our heads. Repeated the 'interesting' stream crossings on the way out, adding an equally 'interesting' by pass of two of the crossings. Back at the parking lot, warm, wet, appropriately tired, and very happy as the rain set in. Dinner was ready as we arrived back at Camelot! |
