Wiesner's Dike/Buttress (5.6)

The forecast was supposed to be sunny all day sunday, but when we reached the base of cannon cliff it was drizzling and we were engulfed in fog. Franconia Notch creates its own weather I suppose.
We hung out at the base of Wiessners dike for a while until the clouds seemed to thin out, and then I started up the first pitch following the dike. By the time I belayed Elliott up the clouds started parting and it in fact turned out to be a sunny day!
I started out correctly following the Wiessner's Dike for a little while, but got led astray by an incorrect MountainProject picture I'd printed out. I think I strayed onto somewhere near Wiessners buttress, going over some more difficult terrain than expected but still passing old pitons every once in a while.
Near the top of the cliff we finally converged onto our intended route for the seventh and final pitch - the infamous "Archival Flake." It's an offwidth crack on a big flake that you just squirm up with a lot of grunting. It was actually the funnest pitch of the route in hindsight.
I summitted on the remains of the Old Man of the Mountain and belayed off his old cables.
To make the trip official Elliott and I then bushwacked up to the trail and hiked the final 1/2 mile to the summit of cannon for a true mountaineering experience.
