Eric G, John R, Sheep, Christian 16 miles hiking 4 miles pack rafting We started hiking up the wilderness trail from lincoln woods with the intention of stopping at the bondcliff trail turnoff and packrafting back to the trailhead, and calling that good for the day. But Bondcliff was too tempting to pass up. It was only an extra 9 miles of hiking to get an above-treeline view. So we stashed three rafts in the woods and started up the trail. John brought his full rafting setup to the summit for training, and I suspect that's the first time bondcliff has seen such equipment. We made it back to the Pemi by 4pm, just as it started raining. We quickly inflated the pack rafts and started paddling down. The Pemi was really low and we had to get out of the rafts often to walk around rocks. I think we covered the first 1.5 miles in 2.5 hours! After franconia falls the pemi got deeper and funner. We pretty much stayed in the rafts for the next few hours, hitting lots of fun rapids, until darkness forced us out of the river. We then packed the rafts back into our backpacks and hiked the last mile or so back to the car. |
