The Tripyramids were supposed to be our compensation for Mt. Isolation that was literally rained off 2 weeks earlier. We left Boston early on Saturday and on our way to the trailhead I learned about life (and hiking) in Israel from Yuval and Akiva. I keep saying that every MITOC hike is better than any language class to me, but with MITs internationality its lots of intercultural learning too!

We hiked the flat Livermore Trail until we hit the north slide what turned out to be a huge view-full fun. Only Akiva kept smilingly telling that as a dad now, he’s just too old for scrambling. We had a tasty lunchbreak on the North Tripyramid and made it to the middle and south peaks afterwards. We took back the south slide and down again Yuval posed in front of the sign indicating the “deep woods”.

After that, I had to find out that my personal after-hike transportation logistics were a clear example for: good idea - bad realization! I had plans to go to Camelot while my fellow hiker wanted to leave for Boston. Since it’s a huge loop way going to the cabin and back, the plan was to dropping me at the Hannaford for food shopping where Pavel would pick me up on his way. Mh…. It wasn’t our day for good timing, I guess! Since the Hannaford isn’t as much of a cool place to hang out for a couple of hours, I tried my luck finding friendly people willing to give me a ride to the cabin. Luckily I met 2 very nice canadian climber who almost seemed happy to drive me around. They later told me: “Hey, we’ve hitch-hiked so much in our lives, now we are happy we can give it back!”. Good thing, asking people for a favor and getting the feeling of having done something good to them, isn’t it ;)?

Soon Elliot and Eric were the first to arrive from their climbing trip, later Pavel + family and finally some other MITOC climber came back. We cooked good food, enjoyed the campfire and had a very nice evening.

Continuing with tool shed construction was our program for Sunday. I was looking forward to that because I always had great times in Camelot and really liked the idea to contribute (at least a bit) to “the cabins well-being” ;). Also such kind of work remind me of home (jep, Germans build their houses themselves sometimes) which can be really nice when you’re abroad for a while!

So I got lots of input about construction-related vocabulary, staining routine and very first nail gun experiences (what a scary tool!) that day. It was really fun to work with Pavel and I’m pretty sure he’s been working much more thoroughly with the tool shed than most people do for building the big houses! Also I was pretty impressed about how much technical knowledge he had gained by all his projects!

We finished by 7 PM and went back to Boston. That day I was one more time surprised about what kind of a variety of experiences you can have being part of MITOC and already was looking forward to proudly tell my dad about my pretty manual working day ;).
