On a beautiful wintery (finally) day, Rick took a few MITOCers out for a climb at Rumney. It would be Val and the Stockers' first time, Mike's second, and the others were relative pros. Despite the large range of experience, fun was had by all.

It had recently snowed and was going to snow again that day, so everything was covered by a nice layer of powder, and the recent cold ensured that there was ice a-plenty.

We were the only group on the ice all day so we set up two top-ropes with which we were able to climb all parts of the ice flow, which varied from a 3 to 3+, depending on the route. The ice also varied in condition, ranging from wet and plastic to blue and hard (although as the temps dropped throughout the day, it became harder).

The newbies got the hang of it very quickly, and the others got some good practice in different conditions. This ranged from Scott's finesse where he only hooked his tools the whole way up, to Harvey's climb that made me wish I had brought a cup to protect from the falling ice.

By 4pm it was snowing pretty hard and we were all gassed. So, Rick, Val, and Mike went up to take the ropes down, and Val got his first taste of rappelling.

A day well spent!
