Ice Climbing at Champney Falls

We had a great day with some good climbing in the gorge at Champney Falls. It was chilly, especially with the wind blowing through. The ice was very hard and brittle in most places, except a few streaks where the water was running, and it was very soft. One or two leads were attempted... only one successful if I remember correctly, as the ice just shattered around the screw threads. Lots of top ropes, shared with other folks too.
The highlight came right before we left... we climbed up the river for a ways, just free-climbing the 4-8 ft falls and buldges. There were lots of amazing ice formations and beautiful frozen pools and falls. Absolutely wonderful!
