DescriptionIt seemed like a good idea to practice staying warm, dry, and happy during a January rainstorm on the slopes of Mt. Tecumseh. Forecasts of sporadic rain early, followed by heavy afternoon rains, rising winds, and temperatures near freezing proved to be completely accurate. We all finished the day very happy, reasonably warm-ish, but with a new, soggy appreciation of the limitations of our respective rain gear.

Per tradition, we started the trip at the local Dunkin' Donuts where we donned our rain gear and hiking boots. After a short drive to the trailhead, we got out of our cars to be greeted by a sudden downpour while we were unloading and making ready. Undeterred, we were soon heading up Tecumseh Trail with microspikes deployed. Photos are few because none of us were carrying waterproof cameras. We slipped and clawed our way up the steep trail, through the clouds, to the top. Thoroughly drenched, in lieu of a picnic on the windy summit, we paused for some quick photos before heading to a more sheltered lunch spot lower down. After a quick lunch, with forecasts of afternoon thunderstorms, we then expedited our remaining descent, considerably aided by gravity and ice covered trails. Thanks to all of the rain and snow melt, the final stream crossing was no longer passable, but an alternate route was found a little upstream. By hike's end, were barely noticed that the rain had become continuous and torrential.
