Description | Mt. Tripyramid Loop via Slides
July 3, 2006 Borja Inarrea, Vesna Damljanovic, Mike Kokko In a daring act of courage, bucking long-standing MITOC traditions, the three of us decided to attempt the classic Mt. Tripyramid loop gasp in the summer! Donning sunscreen and deet rather than crampons and ice axes, we set out from the Livermore Road parking lot at about 10am after a scenic tour of the Waterville area. A quick jaunt on the road brought us to the second Mt. Tripyramid Trail crossing where we headed up towards the north slide. The weather was gorgeous and conditions were just right for the trip. The slide yielded amazing views of Tecumseh, the Osceolas, and various peaks in the Pemi Wilderness. All too quickly we reached the top of the slide, and from there we followed the trail over the three Tripyramid summits. The south slide made for a nice descent with great views of Sandwich Dome. We made it back to the car after a close encounter with some crazy mountain bikers on the Livermore Trail, and started back to Boston around 4:30pm. It was an enjoyable hike for all, and we were glad that we chose this trip over the originally-scheduled Hancock loop. |
