Description | The Carter Traverse is one of the Death Hikes of the White Mountains: it took us 11.5 hours of hiking, scrambling, and running, for 18-19 miles and 7000 feet of elevation. Some parts are flat, but some are very steep.
Starting from Glen Ellis Falls and ending in Gorham is the best way; the beginning is steep, you don't want to go down there at night or under the rain. You will climb six 4000 footers: - Wildcat D: 4050, - Wildcat A: 4422, - Carter Dome: 4832, - South Carter: 4430, - Middle Carter: 4610, - Mt. Moriah: 4049, and be rewarded by wonderful viewpoints on the Presidential Range. |
