DescriptionKiwi, Cleo, Sebastian, Quirin, Dave, Christina, Max, Maher, Laura, and Rich confirmed that the Beaver Brook Trail is rightly considered the most difficult as well as the most scenic trail on Mt. Moosilauke. Moosilauke is the 10th highest summit in the Whites and offers a 360 degree view of the Presidentials to the NE, Mt. Madison in Vermont to the NW, the Adirondacks to the W, as well as all of the nearby and intermediate range peaks along Franconia Notch and the Pemigawasset Wilderness. True to its reputation, it was rather breezy on top.

The bottom 1.5 miles rises some 2000 feet past a seemingly endless series of sublime cascades. It is even steeper than the stats suggest because the first 1/4 mile or so comprises a flat approach. On the way down, we enjoyed a brief detour for a bushwack to the top of Mt. Blue. The sometimes distinct herd path to that summit was easy to follow on the way up, since up was always in a unique direction. The same herd path was far less distinct on the way down when there was then a plurality of 'down vectors.' We checked out the Beaver Brook shelter and lingered at length to enjoy its view of Franconia Ridge, the Bonds, the Twins, Washington, and much more.

After surviving the tedious tedium of the treacherous, slippery, steep descent back down along Beaver Brook, we extended our adventure with a visit to the Atlas Redstone rocket in the Warren Town Square, and finished up foraging wild raspberries and heirloom apples by the roadside near Camelot.

A very full and thoroughly satisfying day.
