DescriptionRegrettably, the backcountry had very little snow accumulation last weekend. So, how could we possibly go skiing and hiking? Waterville Valley was our answer; skiing works when you have snow grooming equipment and a couple of cannons making snow!

On Sunday, a bunch of MITOCers (Dave, Eyal, Jasmine, Nick, Radu, Drew and Patrick) headed out to Mount Tecumseh to hike up the hill (why would we use a perfectly good ski lift when there's a trail?!) and ski down again. The hike was about 2.2 miles and 2200 ft of elevation gain to the summit, including a valiant push for the last 300 feet of elevation to the summit. We then had lunch and we practiced stove lighting at the summit (enabling me to have some miso soup). .6 miles more led to the Nextel tower and the top of Waterville Valley. The next part of the trip was straightforward: the trail became much bigger and had all these snow cannons on the side. We got back to the base lodge at 4pm, beating sunset by 30 minutes.
