Pseudo Backcountry Skiing on Cannon 01/17/07 Cannon Mountain, NH Lee Magnusson, Kat Potter, Stella Nordhagen, Chris Glazner, Patrick Allen Trip Report: After a long, sleety drive north, our group convened in the Cannon base lodge and made the decision to hike up the abandoned ski area known as the Mittersill, adjacent to Cannon. There was barely enough snow to skin up, but we made steady progress nonetheless, eventually pushing over the top of Mittersill in 40 mph winds. A quick boot up Taft Slalom in the ski area put us on the summit. Checked out the summit platform briefly, then cashed in, skiing back to the base by poaching Taft Slalom and the other frontside trails. The snow was unremarkable in quality and quantity, but we had a great hike and a great day with good company. Cannon never disappoints! |
