After some exciting driving though the snow and slush we arrived at Kinsman Notch to grey skies and steady snowfall.
There was a little difficulty finding finding the climbers' path under several inches of fresh snow, but we soon found our way to the crag.
The ice was very thin for mid-January and many routes were incomplete, particularly where ice curtains didn't touch down.
However, there was plenty of climbing to be had and the ice was very soft, which made for great conditions for beginners.

We set up three routes; a low-angled mixed gully, a slab climb up a long corner, and a varied route with a couple of steep steps.
Everybody did a great job of dispatching all the routes, even those for whom this was their first time on ice.
Most people tried a couple of different lines on each rope, straying onto steeper or thinner ice.
As dusk approached we moved a rope onto a steep chandeliered curtain and a couple of us tried our luck on the steep brittle ice.

As is standard, we hiked out in the dark and headed to the Common Man for free cheese and Trivial Pursuits.
