Trip Report

We set out on our hike around 10am. The weather was beautiful, with little wind and no clouds. The trail was mostly packed snow, but there were a few patches of ice which were a little bit more difficult to navigate. The scenery was fantastic, and we took a few break to look around and appreciate it.

We took a little break near a pond to take lots of pictures, and continued on to an AMC cabin. The cabin was unheated. We had lunch there, and were reminded of the fact that just having good wind shelter doesn't protect us from the cold: by the time we were done eating pretty much every member of the group was starting to get cold.

On the way back we took a little break to talk about and practice emergency situations. Janina volunteered to have her leg broken, and we bundled her up, made hot coco, pitched a tent and got a demonstration of using cotton balls, vaseline and magnesium for starting a fire.

Once we were sufficiently cold again, we continued on our descent. Chris sang Native American songs while the sun was setting. We made it to the parking lot in the dark, everybody using their headlamps. With total lack of cloud cover we took a look at the stars and piled into our cars to get some hot pizza in North Conway.
